About Occupational Therapy

According to the definition of WFOT (World Federation of Occupational Therapy), Occupational Therapy is a client centered health profession concerned with promoting health and wellbeing through occupation. Primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the Activities of Daily Life. Occupational therapy works with people and communities to improve health and well-being through enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to or are expected to do. Or by modifying or adapting the occupations or the environments to better support their occupational engagement with any level of abilities. . 

Occupational therapy students receive extensive training in the fields of medical, social behavioral, psychological, psycho-social and occupational science, during which they are equipped with attitudes, skills and knowledge to work with people, individually or in groups or communities.

Occupational therapists believe that participation can be restricted or facilitated by cognitive, emotional, psychological and physical abilities, or the characteristics of occupation (activity), cultural, social and physical environments. Therefore, occupational therapy practice focuses on enabling the individual to change aspects of themselves, their occupation, their environment, or a combination of these in order to enhance their occupational participation.

 

What people benefit from occupational therapy services?

Occupational therapists can work with all people, including those who have an impairment of body function and function owing to a health condition including psychology (psychiatry), neurology, orthopedics, mental and physical diseases of children and adults. Or who are restricted in their participation or who are socially excluded owing to their membership of social or cultural minority groups.

» Children with neurobiological disorders and problems or Intellectual Disabilities: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Behavioral Disorders and….

» Children with all kinds of physical disabilities: including Cerebral Palsy, premature child,  Spino Bifida, Poliomyelitis, Trauma Brain Injury, Developmental and Motor delay, and orthopedic lesions such as fractures and dislocations, amputations, etc.
